1940 Dodge Business Coupe
Picked up another Business Coupe project!
Found it advertised on a local Craigslist for $500, so I gave the guy a call. After talking to him, I knew it was missing the frame from the firewall forward, the firewall and the floor. I still had to go look at it, of course!
After seeing it in person and assessing the damage, I decided it was something I could build, so I left a deposit and made my way back home. Here's some pics as I found it:
The front.... this is where it gets scary!
I knew it came with most of the body parts, including the complete original dash.
We came back on Wednesday night with my truck and trailer and loaded her up. That's when he started bring out the parts I didn't know came with it..... I was jazzed, but didn't have time to take an accurate inventory...
One I got home, I was able to unload and see what came with it. All the glass, minus one quarter window, all the garnish moldings in absolutely stunning condition, a set of 16" mopar steelies, the original glass tail lights and headlight trim, marker lights, and tons of original fasteners.
Basically, the only parts I'm missing (aside from the frame section and firewall/floor) is the hood, seat, gas tank and inner fenders.
I spent a couple hours and bolted everything I could back onto the car.... it went so easy, it felt like car WANTED to be put back together!
I have to post a pic of the flames on the fender, I wish I had a frame simply so I could reassemble the front clip!
It's a rough start for some, but its something I can work with it. I'll feel pretty good once she's a driver again, because her future looked pretty bleak until I found her! I wonder what her past was, she's definitely someone's old hot rod, not sure what rearend it has and the center x-frame was torched out by a previous rodder.
I can't wait to start on it, but it will have to wait until my Model A roadster is a driver (any day now!!) and then I can start on it.
I'm figuring something that looks like a lowered stocker on the outside. I'm thinking of running a small block Chrysler or slant six with dual pipes. I've had a ton of fun for the money with slant six powered cars!
For now, I'll do my research on front clips and keep an eye out for a stock frame
