1970 Plymouth Duster test drive
Holy moly falling off steering wheels Batman!!!
Sooooo..... I found a promising looking 1970 Plymouth Duster online in San Jose, slant six auto, looked to be in pretty decent shape, seemed like a good start for me and made plans to look at it Saturday
Saturday rolls around and we head out. Things looked promising, we saw a blue 1974 or so Duster cruising on the freeway, I thought that seemed like a good sign.Show up at the address, car had some funk but overall had good enough bones for me.
Drove it down the freeway to make sure it was okay, the drum brakes had a slight pull and the engine ran awful. However, these are all things I thought could be fixed.
After it dies the third time we pull over and we've got the hood up, my girlfriend calls bitching at me because we've been there an hour and the kids are going nuts. We were able to get it fired up manually but I let the dude drive the thing home because he knows it better. I figured it had something to do with the funky temporary gas tank situation or the horrible vacuum leak and decided it would be better if he drove it.
Off we were again, we're a few blocks from the dude's house when the steering wheel COMES COMPLETELY OFF and he mashes the brakes while trying to put the wheel back on and hits a freaking parked Acura RSX, wiping out the entire drivers side of that car!!
My life flashed before my eyes because minutes before we were flying down the freeway doing over 65!!
I was in a daze because I didn't see that happening and was glad we were okay.
Still in a weird place mentally, not sure if I should make an offer on the car but what a story!!!
