Steve Carlsen's Garage

Steve Carlson is another Livermore local, a great guy with an incredible garage. He's retired now, so all he does it work on cars. If you're looking for someone local to do some welding or fabrication, give him a call. Steve says, "If it don't work, I can make it work for you!"

Steve says "I value floor space more than anything." He plans on blowing out the back of the shop so he can add some more space.

Here are some more pictures from around his garage.

Steve says this is dirty for his garage. The beer on the table is also the reason I forgot a few details, too. He still parties hard!!

The man himself!

Steve's 1971 Plymouth Duster

This clean little blue rocket has the time tested 318 with a 904 torqueflight. Steve says it's his "get around" car.

He's had 11 (or was it 13?) Dusters, and this was one of his fast ones. It had a 360 and I think 4.56 gears, but I can't remember the ETs or many other details. I'm sure Steve will update me!

In Steve's Shop now - 1940 Chevrolet

The front clip is off while Steve puts in a fresh mill.

A closer look reveals that is no stock poured babbit 216 Chevy six!

That chunk of aluminum goodness is a Wayne 12 port head, and its the last one of the reproduction casting run made. Wayne 12 port heads were the hot ticket back in the day when racing Chevy six poppers was more common.

If you don't know the stock 235 engine family, you didn't know that the stock heads only had 6 ports; three exhaust, three for the intake. Needless to say, the stock head was fairly restrictive.

Steve is fabbing up an intake for the special head.

The Chevy in its former incarnation, hauling the cookies with a blown Chevy six. Radical, but not as radical as the new engine will be.

That's all I have for now, but will have more of Steve's stuff later. He's got a nice '69 Plymouth Roadrunner and a mid 50's F100 that I wasn't able to get pictures of, so maybe next month.
