Stuffing a Hacked Up Glasspack Muffler into a Lakes Header
So I built a set of Lakes Headers for the Model A until I figure out what else to do for an exhaust and go figure, they were LOUD AS HELL!!!
It wasn’t even a “good loud”, at idle it was just a stock cammed Chevy 283 “BLAT BLAT BLAT BLAT!”, but at any RPM higher than idle and you wanted to gouge out your eardrums!
This really isn’t anything amazing, I pretty much cut up a $25 Cherry Bomb and stuffed it into the pipe. I took pictures, mostly because I’d never seen the inside of a glasspack muffler, and thought maybe you’d like to see it, too.
It’s much much quieter, too. If the fiberglass packing blows out I’ll replace it with steel wool and see how that lasts…
In this picture you can see the Chrysler alternator I adapted to the Chevy 283. Why? Because GM 10/12si alternators are one of the ugliest appendages you can hang off a small block Chevy. Even when chromed. That’s right, One Wire Boy!!
The insert is secured to the cone with a couple of 1/4 self tapping screws through the bottom. It’s got garage door parts!!
Later I trimmed back the snout of the glasspack and painted them black so they would disappear into the header cone. They look really good on the car, I think!
